INWARD PROCESSING
The Inward Processing (IP) procedure, known in Spain as Tráfico de Perfeccionamiento Activo (TPA), is a customs regime under the Union Customs Code (UCC) that allows the temporary importation of non-EU yachts or aircraft into the European Union for repair, maintenance, or refit works.
Under this regime, customs duties and import VAT are suspended, provided the asset is re-exported outside the EU once the works are completed and all requirements are properly fulfilled. This can generate significant cost savings, particularly in jurisdictions such as Spain, where VAT reaches 21%. The relief applies to locally supplied services and materials, as well as those sourced from other EU Member States and spare parts imported specifically for the project.
Eligibility is generally limited to non-EU flagged and non-EU owned vessels or aircraft and must be confirmed through a detailed review prior to initiating the procedure.
As the regime involves strict formalities, accurate planning and compliance are essential. Our firm can open, manage, and oversee the entire procedure, ensuring full compliance, minimising risks, and delivering an efficient and cost-effective process from start to finish.
